A Complete Guide to Walt Disney World’s Monorail

There’s just something iconic about gliding into Magic Kingdom on the Monorail, it’s not just transportation, it’s part of the magic! Whether you’re staying at a resort along the loop or simply want to experience one of Disney’s most classic rides, the Monorail is a must-do!

What is the Monorail?

Walt Disney World’s Monorail system has been travelling guests around since 1971 and remains one of the most iconic (and fun!) ways to travel. Elevated above the ground, it gives you some magical views, especially when you’re heading toward Cinderella Castle!

There are three lines:

  • Resort Monorail: Stops at Magic Kingdom, Contemporary Resort, the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), Polynesian Village Resort, and Grand Floridian.
  • Express Monorail: Runs non-stop between the TTC and Magic Kingdom.
  • Epcot Line: Runs between the TTC and Epcot.

Driving to Magic Kingdom? You’ll park your car at the Transportation and Ticket Centre and the easiest way to get to the park entrance is by jumping on the Express Monorail straight to Magic Kingdom!

A Few Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Monorails usually run every 10 minutes, but timing can vary depending on the time of day and crowds.
  • Security screening happens at Monorail entry points, so allow time for that.
  • Pushchairs can remain open. Be aware that during busy times, cast members may ask you to fold it down to accommodate more guests on board.
  • Accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters, with designated boarding areas.
  • Air-conditioned for a cool, comfy ride—especially welcome in those warmer months!
  • Best view tip: Ask a Cast Member if you can wait for a front-row spot near the windows!
  • During a storm, Disney may limit the number of Monorails on the track (sometimes only one at a time), which can cause significant delays. When the skies look stormy, consider giving yourself extra travel time or choosing an alternative route like the ferry or bus.

Don’t Forget about the Ferryboat!

You can also sail across Seven Seas Lagoon from the Transportation and Ticket Center on a charming double-decker ferryboat to Magic Kingdom. It’s a calm and breezy way to start or end your day, especially if you want that grand reveal view of Cinderella Castle as you arrive!

Trivia Time! Although there are three separate lines, the combined track stretches around 14.7 miles. On a busy day, the Monorail can transport up to 100,000 guests, cruising between parks and resorts, making it not just iconic, but essential!

I have put together this fun reference guide to help you navigate the Monorail routes, travel times, and destinations. I’ve also included details about the charming ferryboat across Seven Seas Lagoon, another relaxing (and scenic!) way to start your Disney day.
