Planning Your First Trip to Disneyland Paris? Here’s What You Need to Know!

If you’re dreaming of a magical escape to Disneyland Paris, I’m here to help you feel prepared and excited, especially if it’s your very first visit. Whether you’re a seasoned Walt Disney World fan or brand new to the parks, there are a few things that make Disneyland Paris truly unique.

Disneyland Paris Entrance

Here are my top tips for first-time visitors:

All the Disney hotels are within walking distance of the parks, which is a huge plus! It’s so easy to pop back to your room for a rest or a snack. And if your feet need a break, there are free shuttle buses running throughout the day.

Top perk? Onsite guests get Extra Magic Time, which means you can enter the parks before they officially open. This is perfect for ticking off popular rides with lower queues, or even getting those dreamy castle photos without the crowds.

While Disneyland Paris is smaller than Walt Disney World, there’s still plenty of magic to enjoy! I recommend at least two full days in Disneyland Park and one day for Walt Disney Studios Park.

If you can stretch your stay to 4 or 5 days, even better—you’ll have more time to soak up the atmosphere, revisit your favourite rides, and enjoy a more relaxed pace (especially with little ones in tow).

Before you go, download the official Disneyland Paris app. It’s a must-have for checking wait times, booking restaurant reservations, seeing showtimes, and using Disney Premier Access (if you choose to).

One of my favourite Disneyland Paris tips: you can bring your own snacks into the parks! This can be a game-changer if you’ve got picky eaters, food allergies, or just want to save a bit of money, it’s also ideal for keeping the kids happy between meals. Just avoid glass containers and anything perishable.

Keep your eyes peeled in the lobbies of Disney hotels, where characters often pop in for meet-and-greets. You might spot Mickey in his travel gear or Goofy causing mischief, it’s such a fun way to start your day.

Two absolute must-dos at Disneyland Paris are the Disney Stars on Parade and the evening spectacular, Disney Tales of Magic. These are the moments that truly bring the magic to life—so don’t miss them!

This colourful, high-energy parade is packed with your favourite characters, dancers, and dazzling floats. It usually runs in the late afternoon (always check the app).

Top tip: Arrive 30–45 minutes early to grab a good spot—earlier during busy seasons or holidays.
Main Street has the classic castle backdrop, but Frontierland or near “it’s a small world” are often quieter areas for a less crowded view.

At the end of the day, don’t miss Disney Tales of Magic—a breathtaking show combining fireworks, fountains, castle projections, music, and lights. It’s the perfect way to end your Disney day.

Here’s how to enjoy it like a pro:

  • Get a spot early! Aim to be in position at least 60 minutes before showtime, especially during peak times.
  • Try to stand where you can see the front of Sleeping Beauty Castle—that’s where the main projections happen.
  • On a second night, consider watching from Main Street instead. You’ll see projections on the buildings, which adds a whole new layer of magic!

Want the best view without the wait?

You can book a dedicated paid viewing area, which gives you a prime view of the castle with fewer crowds and no need to camp out for ages. This can be a great option if you’re travelling with little ones or just want a bit more breathing room.

One of Disneyland Paris’s most enchanting hidden gems is Sleeping Beauty’s Castle Walkthrough—a truly magical experience you won’t find at any other Disney park.

Once you’ve admired the castle from the outside, be sure to step inside and head upstairs to the beautiful gallery filled with stained glass windows and tapestries that tell the story of Princess Aurora’s journey. It’s like walking through a fairy tale come to life!

But the real showstopper is just below the castle: a mysterious dragon’s lair. This isn’t just any dragon—it’s a huge, life-like animatronic dragon that occasionally moves, roars, and breathes smoke, all in a dimly lit cavern beneath the castle.

It’s spooky, impressive, and totally unique to Disneyland Paris—definitely a must-see for kids and adults alike!

Disneyland Paris’s arcades—the covered walkways that run along Main Street, U.S.A.—are a total secret weapon when it comes to beating crowds and bad weather.

After the parade or fireworks, Main Street can get very busy, and it’s easy to get caught in a sea of people trying to leave or find a spot for the next show. The arcades offer a quieter, covered route where you can stroll comfortably without the crush.

Plus, if the weather takes a turn (and, let’s be honest, European weather can be unpredictable!), these arcades provide a lovely sheltered space to pause, regroup, or even grab a quick snack without getting soaked.

Disneyland Paris weather can be a bit unpredictable, so packing smart is key to staying comfortable no matter when you visit.

  • Winter months can be chilly and damp, (I’ve been there when it’s snowed!) Be sure to pack layers, warm jackets, hats, and gloves—and don’t forget comfy waterproof shoes for rainy days!
  • Summer can get surprisingly hot, especially when you’re waiting in queues or walking all day. Bring lightweight clothing, sun hats, sunscreen, and portable fans or misting sprays to keep everyone cool and happy.

Remember, layers are your best friend: you can add or remove them easily as the temperature changes throughout the day.

Dining reservations at Disneyland Paris go like hotcakes, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead. You can book most table-service restaurants up to 2 months in advance on the official Disneyland Paris website or mobile app.

Here’s a little insider tip: if you’re staying at a Disney hotel, you get a huge perk—you can make your dining reservations as soon as your booking is confirmed, often before they open to the general public! This can make all the difference if there’s a must-do restaurant on your list.

Heads up: some restaurants open for bookings a bit later than others, so keep an eye on the app and website for updates.

Don’t feel like you have to book a sit-down meal every day—there are plenty of quick-service and grab-and-go spots throughout the parks and Disney Village. This gives you more freedom to hop on rides, catch shows, or simply wander without worrying about a long meal.

My advice? Mix it up! Enjoy a relaxed table-service meal one day, then grab a tasty snack or sandwich the next. It’s all about making your trip fun and flexible.

Only in Disneyland Paris can you enjoy a glass of champagne while strolling through the park! For around €20, you can treat yourself to a glass of bubbly—and the best part? It comes in a souvenir “glass” you get to keep. (Psst… it’s actually plastic, but it looks chic and makes a fab keepsake!) You can find this at the end of Main Street sold at a little bike cart by the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour.

Yes, Disneyland Paris is smaller than Walt Disney World, and you can walk between both parks and the Disney hotels—but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a quick stroll all day!

You’ll still be on your feet a lot, clocking up thousands of steps without even noticing. From park-hopping to queuing, to dashing for your next Lightning Lane or parade spot—it all adds up

So here’s your warning: comfy shoes are a must. Think cushioned trainers or broken-in walking shoes over fashion footwear. Trust me, your feet will thank you by day two.

Top tip: Take blister plasters or cushioned socks just in case, you never know when they’ll come in handy!
